Alternative for Immigrants (AfI) is issuing a correction regarding the false statements made by Moderates politician and former MP, Katarina Brännström, during her interview with Sveriges Radio on April 20, 2026.

The False Claim of Non-Responsiveness

In her interview with Sveriges Radio, Brännström stated: “I have emailed this party… and I have not received a response or anything”.

Brännström did not even send her email to AfI until 11:12 PM on April 20, hours after she gave the interview claiming we were unresponsive. AfI responded the very next morning at 11:12 AM (April 21), providing her with the official diary number confirming her withdrawal.

It is a grave concern that a former legislator would go on national radio to fabricate a story about a lack of communication before she had even initiated contact with our organization.

The Bug Myth vs. BankID Reality

Brännström blamed a “technical bug” for her registration. There is no “bug” in the Swedish Election Authority’s portal that can bypass a BankID signature. To be on our list, Brännström had to log in, select the party, and confirm.

If a former MP cannot navigate a simple digital consent form without “accidentally” joining a new party, it raises a serious question: How can she be trusted to govern a digitalized Sweden?

A Crisis of Competence or Integrity?

The excuses we are seeing from veteran politicians across the spectrum point to a deeper issue within the Swedish establishment.

• If these politicians are telling the truth, they are dangerously incompetent with the very technology they use to govern the nation.

AfI condemns the journalistic failure of Herman Salomonsson and Gosia Stechman. By broadcasting Brännström’s false claims without reaching out to AfI for a comment or verifying the timeline of her “sent emails”, Sveriges Radio failed its mandate for objective and accurate reporting.
